Saturday evening brought a great Shad fly hatch on the Beaverkill  — these are the caddis flies with the green egg sac - and windshields of cars driving along the river were plastered with bits of green and lots of flies. The Shad fly is hatching at just about the “right” time - early May and coinciding with the Shad run up the Delaware River.

On an early morning walk with Tessie along the river today just at sunrise, many tiny rises were seen, although couldn’t see any flies - but hopefully this sunny morning will produce some good fishing. We can expect to see Blue-Winged Olives, a few remaining Blue Quills and Hendricksons hatching in the afternoon; with caddis flies all during the day.
