We were given a gift today - breezy cool temperatures and, thanks to the weekend’s rain showers, rivers that were back up to their average flows. No doubt the almost- full moon had an effect; we left home shortly after 7 pm and the air temperature was 72 degrees - it had dropped almost 10 degrees by nightfall. The water was a cool and perfect 66 degrees and we noticed a few rises that ebbed and receeded as the evening went on. Some large light colored mayflies, lots if different sized caddis and yellow stoneflies were apparent. We caught some nice feisty fish - one of Ed’s was a wild rainbow - testament how these fish are slowly making their way up into the Beaverkills’ waters - his successful night came by using a size #16 Adams; mine with a CDC Elk Hair Caddis.
